Managing the Childbirth Labor Pain during Pregnancy
June 20, 2010 10:29 am Child Birth & LaborThe childbirth labor during pregnancy is what many of the expecting mothers fear the most. In earlier times, when the medical science was not much developed, the women had no option but to bear the pain. At best, what the women could do was to prepare the body and mind during this phase to endure the labor pain. Also, there were not considerable research inputs to know how to manage the labor stages better.
With the advancement in medical research, there was a time when doctors began using anesthesia to put the mothers to sleep even as they delivered the babies. However, the advocates of the natural ways to deliver the babies always preferred the non-medicated ways. They were of the belief that medicated ways could be harmful to baby’s health and considered that the prevailing research methodology is not advanced enough to establish this fact. Their efforts at promoting natural birth techniques in the decades of sixties and seventies were concentrated on teaching the breathing and relaxation exercises to reduce the pain of childbirth labor.
These days the medical science is far more advanced. Women can easily give birth to baby with little or no pain. Women can make a choice between the medicated or non-medicated methods of delivery. Medicated methods would invariably involve administration of small amounts of anesthesia which will prevent the pain and will allow you keep awake during the whole stages of labor permitting you to experience the same as well. Analgesics and tranquilizers are also used to reduce the pain. The non-medication methods make use of massage, acupuncture, hypnosis, distraction, reflexology, hydro therapy and others. In fact, doctors do tell some useful exercises that shall be done during the whole period of pregnancy so that there is less pain and the body is made strong enough for this final stage of pregnancy.
You shall always consult your doctor who is regularly monitoring your and baby health to know what is the ideal approach towards the childbirth labor pain. Due to their experience, they will be able to tell whether you would be able to handle the rigors of pain or not. Also, they can devise the best alternative methods to follow. If the women are able to handle pregnancy naturally, they can get the real experience of child birth. But nowadays, many women prefer the easy way of taking some medical help to escape the pain. After all, when technology and medical science is here to help without any adverse effects for the baby or the mother, then why not use it?
