Life sometimes presents us with untoward predicaments. Teenage pregnancy is one such condition that is not as rare a phenomenon as we would like it to be. In developing countries, more often than not, pregnancy before the girl is eighteen years of age, happens within wedlock and is socially acceptable. In the developed countries, it exists is more or less accepted as something that has happened but should not have happened. Beyond social values, the important point is that it leads to unwanted outcomes either way. Risk of mortality at birth increases in such cases. Even if the pregnancy results in survival, lives of both the mother and child lack in quality, for reasons that are not hard to comprehend.

Physically, mentally and emotionally children are children till they attain adulthood. Even then very few are able to deal life’s problems in a mature manner. So getting into parenthood that early adversely burdens the woman more than the man who is free, at least on the physical front. Emotional and social factors also add to the distress.

As it is, pregnancy health is a delicate issue with mature women too. Not many women are able to cope with it in a pleasant way. Immature age would only make the matters more complicated. Complete and watchful monitoring of the woman’s prenatal health is of utmost importance. Proper diet, vitamin and mineral supplements, light exercise and purposeful rest need to be monitored carefully. Appointments with the doctor should not be missed. Last but not the least, the state of mind needs good care. That is the backbone of successful motherhood. Once all these factors are suitably monitored, one can reasonably expect the pregnancy to successfully culminate into motherhood, past the strains of child birth labor.
