The term ‘Pregnancy’ in simple words, is described as “carrying of one or more offspring inside the uterus of a female”.  But for any woman, it holds much deeper meaning as it easily is the most crucial phase in her life. During this phase a woman experiences amazing moments with her growing baby.

Two Varying Emotions

Generally, the two most important emotions related to pregnancy are excitement and worry. Although different from each other, these two emotions go hand in hand.

Excitement can only be felt. It is a major factor for the psychological well-being of a pregnant woman. A pregnant woman can feel excited about embracing the little one in her arms after birth, talking to the bundle of joy, and feeling the responsibility of motherhood. For almost every pregnant woman, the level of excitement is high. In fact, many expectant mothers even start counting the number of days left for the D-day when their third trimester starts.

Worry, surprisingly is the result of all this excitement.

Any pregnant woman who is excited about the arrival of offspring might also be worried about its normal growth and health. It is not necessary that every woman would feel the same about her pregnancy. Various factors are responsible for the different experiences. A lot depends upon the body composition and the environment in which the woman lives. Some woman feel quite troubled during this period while some seem to enjoy the whole phase. The explanation behind this fact, in medical science, is that no two women are similar, and neither is their physical constitution.

Education has enlightened us. Women today are more aware about their health. There has been a remarkable improvement in pre-natal and postnatal care provided. It has become very important for any pregnant woman, to show due care for her nutrition, lifestyle, and emotional aspects of pregnancy. Of course there are many more medical and technical aspects too. In each stage, the body and emotions undergo a change as never before. Some women gain more weight than others, while some don’t seem to put on much weight, except of course for the tummy bulging out.

The contribution of doctors and gynaecologists in spreading awareness about the importance of health of both an expectant mother and the baby is great. Every expectant woman should make a diet and exercise plan with the help of her gynaecologist and should follow that religiously. Weight management, not to mention, is very important for pregnant women as being over-weight or underweight can be troublesome. The diet plan should be such that the consumption of calories is minimized and nutrition intake is maximized.

Remember that a healthy mother will give birth to a healthy baby. The ultimate goal of any pregnancy should not be just to bring a healthy baby into this world, but also to have a lifetime of happy parenting.
