At first, when I felt my breasts become sore, I thought about my periods. But then, when it was accompanied with other pregnancy symptoms, I realized it was something else. Due to hormonal changes in your body, your breasts will get tender and a bit enlarged during the first 12 weeks. You might feel some annoying pain. But, wait; don't be in a hurry to pop painkillers. Try out the following remedies first:
- Buy a bra with a good support. It helps to reduce soreness. Do not go without a bra, as it would make matters worse, no matter what your breast size is.
- Exercise helps a great deal to reduce breast pain. So, go out and stretch your body.
- I never tried this; but many women put ice pads on their breasts to alleviate pain. Others put hot pads. See what works for you.
- Although it may sound weird to you, visualizing your breasts in a complete weightless condition in a warm atmosphere is a great reliever. Deep breathing also works.
- If the pain is too much, the pain reliever - ibuprofen - is a good friend. However, do not take it regularly.
- Also, consult your doctor about altering your hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills, if necessary in your case.
Besides this, I would advice you to check out your diet in order to deal with this symptom. Ask yourself:
- Are you consuming too much salt? Sodium is said to make your breasts tenderer. It leads to more retention of water; causing swelling, and more pain.
- Are you eating too many fatty foods? Kick off those animal products and heavy fats from your plate.
- Are you including too much sugar in your diet? It aggravates breast tenderness.
- Drinking too much coffee? You better cut off those cups because it has been found that caffeine worsens breast tenderness.
- What's your water intake? Drink lots of water to flush excess fluids from the body.
- What's your Vitamin A, B, and E status? It's an advice from me that you take a multivitamin. There is a relation between the consumption of vitamin B-6 and the capacity of your body to metabolize the hormone estrogen.
