Dealing With First Month Pregnancy Symptoms

Many of the first month pregnancy symptoms may appear similar to the usual discomforts a woman experiences during a pre-menstrual period. Besides that, not all expecting women may necessarily experience all the symptoms. The symptoms may even vary in duration, frequency, and intensity. In fact, they can be very intriguing in nature. If a woman is trying to get pregnant she may get frustrated when she finds that what appears like pregnancy signs are actually just pre-menstrual discomforts. On the other hand, a woman who is not trying to conceive may be surprised when she finds that the pre-menstrual symptoms she is experiencing are actually early signs of pregnancy.

Morning Sickness

Among the various first month pregnancy symptoms, morning sickness is the most common one.  It refers to the feelings of vomiting, nausea, and queasiness. But, unlike the tag, such discomforts may not necessarily come only during the morning. An expecting woman may experience morning sickness even during the evening, the afternoon, or at night. There can be an array of factors responsible. For example, it may happen when the would-be mom is not listening properly to her newly developed food cravings. Likewise, an empty stomach can be another reason for morning sickness. An easy way to ease such discomforts is to take frequent small meals - eat foods that you love to eat. Do not sleep with an empty stomach. If you do not like eating your used-to-be favorite foods, do not eat them. Listen to your body and act accordingly. You will find yourself at ease.

Heightened Sensitivity To Aromas

First month pregnancy symptoms may also include an unusual heightened sensitivity to aromas. Some expecting women who used to love the aroma of coffee and would find it quite refreshing may feel queasiness or nausea at the same aroma now that they are pregnant. Even their favorite perfumes may now make them gag. They may also feel nauseated by the smell of cigarette smoke, household cleaners, smells of various foods, the smell of a gas station, or fresh mowed grass. This unusual sensitivity develops probably because of the estrogen that starts flooding the body right from the first month of pregnancy.

Constipation And/Or Heartburn

Constipation and heartburn are also some of the common first month pregnancy symptoms. It usually happens because of the swelling uterus pushing against the stomach. The increasing levels of hormones in the body can be another reason, as the hormonal changes may affect bowel function or slow down digestion in order to prepare the body to absorb as many nutrients, minerals, and vitamins as possible from foods. Constipation, which is nothing but a slower emptying of the stomach, may further result in the feeling of heartburn because the body then starts releasing more stomach acids to help with digestion.

First month pregnancy symptoms most often go away when the expecting woman enters the next semester.
