First pregnancy symptoms vary from one woman to another. In fact, they even vary in their intensity and duration as well. Pregnancy brings a wide array of emotional and physical discomforts. However, the good thing is that these discomforts are not permanent. There is nothing you can do to avoid them. They come and go on their own. But there are several ways to ease some of the discomforts and to lessen their intensity. Information is the key factor in this regard. The more informed you are, the better you will be able to deal with these symptoms.
Frequent Trips To The Restroom
Frequent urination is one of the most common first pregnancy symptoms. This is obviously an embarrassing symptom, as others may also notice it when the expecting woman makes frequent trips to the restroom. Worse, this symptom usually stays for the entire nine months of pregnancy. It usually happens because of the pressure on the bladder by the swelling uterus. Besides that, during this period, the body also creates extra body fluids for the bladder and kidneys to process. There is not much you can do to ease these discomforts.
Irritability And Mood Swings
First pregnancy symptoms may also include mood swings and irritability. Because of the physical changes and the newly found responsibility, expecting women often go through an emotional adjustment period. Even if they were trying to conceive and were mentally prepared for the pregnancy symptoms, they may still have to go through a period of mood swings because their mind suddenly fills with an array of questions about motherhood, labor and delivery, insurance, finances, career, timing, and even the future costs of raising a child. This results in mixed emotions - laughter and tears, joy and sorrow, and even excitement and depression. The husband plays a very important role here because he must understand that the mood swings of his partner are normal symptoms of pregnancy and there is nothing wrong with it. Pregnant women must not hesitate to discuss this aspect with their partners because that is the only way to deal with this temporary problem.
There can be several other first pregnancy symptoms as well, such as high body temperature, lower back pain, constipation and/or heartburn, morning sickness, sensitivity to aromas, aversions to foods, food cravings, fainting and/or dizziness, nausea, unusual fatigue, and breast tenderness. Some of these symptoms last for the entire period of pregnancy while others may come and go with every passing week. Although the symptoms are normal and quite usual for a woman who is pregnant, regular medical checkups are very important because such symptoms are not pregnancy exclusive - they can appear because of other medical conditions as well. This is the reason why a pregnant woman is always strongly recommended to consult with her doctor at least once a month. |
