A woman often feels immense joy in becoming mother. A baby adds a new dimension to life. However sometimes we are not ready to experience the bliss. There can be various valid reasons to avoid pregnancy. An unintentional motherhood can be very overwhelming at the wrong time. There are some common reasons why individuals decide to use birth control. Let us check them out.
- The age is not right. In the teenage years, it is not possible for a girl to imagine being pregnant.
- There could be career plans for that future that do not give space for parenting. In professions like modeling, there are legal bindings about not having a child for a certain number of years.
- Couples may not have enough income and resources to start a family.
- The family is complete and there is no desire for another child by the couple.
- The couple desires a certain number of years gap between their children.
It is not easy to be pregnant and endure huge physical and emotional stress. A woman should only bear a child if she wants a child. Otherwise it could be a very difficult situation. Today there are many methods of birth control. The major ones are mentioned below:
- Abstinence- Here the female does not engage in sexual activity at all. There is absolutely no physical contact. This is the only method that gives a 100% risk proof way to avoid pregnancy.
- Condoms- Latex condoms are a common method of birth control. They also provide protection against lethal ailments like AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. The only concern is the rupture of condoms during intercourse.
- Birth control pills- These pills are commonly available over the counter and by prescription. They do not allow fetal development inside the body. But this is not a full guarantee of successful contraception.
- Spermicidal measures are also available to avoid pregnancy. In case you suspect you are pregnant, there are plan B contraceptive pills available as well.
Certain myths also surround birth control. The misconceptions can do more damage than not knowing at all. Some common tips are explained below:
- Even if a male withdraws before sperm ejaculation inside a female, it can still result in impregnation. Sperm travels very fast and some reach the uterus even before ejaculation. This depends completely on the male and is a very unreliable way to avoid pregnancy.
- Extremely tight condoms are not good as they may rupture during sperm ejaculation. The lack of space for sperm can lead to a burst of the latex rubber.
- A female can still get pregnant if she engages in sexual activity during menstruation. Menstruationycles are erratic and you cannot rely on them completely.
You must remember that there are no half measures in birth control. There are only two states, yes and no. Either a woman is pregnant or she is not. Hence we should not take things in estimation. Birth control is a power we have to shape our lives. It helps us to make a choice about what we want and when we want it. There should be no moral or psychological baggage when deciding to avoid pregnancy. |
